Air Canada flight involved in runway collision at New York’s LaGuardia Airport

Air traffic into and out of LaGuardia airport in New York was halted after what appears to be a collision between an Air Canada flight and a vehicle on the runway.   Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the collision occurred, but a ground stop order from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center was ordered just after 12:04 a.m. Eastern Time.   Preliminary, though unconfirmed, information suggests that the Air Canada flight may have collided with a fire engine while it was landing.   KTLA has reached out to the FAA and Air Canada and is awaiting a response.  Officials with the New York City Fire Department confirmed to KTLA that it responded to an "incident involving a plane and a vehicle on the runway" on LaGuardia's runway four, but said any additional information would need to come from the Port Authority Police Department. In footage posted to the Citizen App, a massive response of police and firefighters can be seen responding to the airport, with additional footage showing what appears to be the visibly damaged aircraft.   The rear of the plane appeared to be on the ground while the fuselage and the front of the aircraft were tilted upward.   X user @Dieggorria told KTLA that he was on a flight to Miami that was waiting to take off when the incident occurred. His flight has since been canceled and was returning to the terminal. It is currently unknown if there are any injuries.   Stay with KTLA for updates to this developing story.   KTLA Assignment Desk Editor Luis Zuniga contributed to this report.
