Aiken teen killed in crash Saturday
AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) — One person is dead following a crash in Aiken County. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is investigating a crash that claimed the life of an Aiken teenager. Officials say the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the intersection of South Hankinson Street and Atomic Road. Investigators say the crash involved a Polaris utility vehicle and a 2020 Nissan Sentra. According to the coroner’s office, the passenger of the utility vehicle was identified as 15-year-old Axel K. Ulteig of Aiken. Investigators say the utility vehicle was attempting to cross Atomic Road when it was struck by the Sentra traveling east. Ulteig was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m. from injuries sustained in the crash. His body will be sent to Newberry for an autopsy. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing the investigation.
