A Young Mother's Life Restored Through Rare Transplant

March 19, 2024, was a significant day for Lacy Cornelius Boyd, filled with excitement as she and her family visited the Grand Canyon during a road trip. Unfortunately, their journey took a traumatic turn when their car encountered black ice, leading to a serious accident resulting in injuries for Boyd, her husband, and their daughter. Boyd underwent multiple surgeries and faced challenges such as short bowel syndrome, requiring an ileostomy bag and long periods of IV nutrition. Despite feeling isolated and struggling with her health, Boyd took initiative to seek a solution and was eventually referred to the Cleveland Clinic for an intestinal transplant. This complex and rare procedure offered hope for Boyd, leading to a successful transplant in July 2025. Following a smooth recovery, Boyd was able to return home to Oklahoma, just in time to participate in holiday festivities with her family. Now, Boyd is enjoying a sense of normalcy and gratitude for being able to engage in everyday activities with her daughter, free from the physical limitations that followed the accident.
