A second major crash shuts down southbound 255 again on Wednesday
4:43 update: Traffic has started moving again on 255. Injuries were reported in a three-vehicle crash on southbound Illinois 255 near Gateway Commerce Drive in Edwardsville, according to information from Illinois State Police. An ambulance arrived at the scene shortly after 4 p.m. The crash happened about 3:32 p.m. Wednesday, May 20. Traffic was being diverted off Illinois 255 at Gateway Commerce Drive. A pickup truck was seen being towed from the scene about 4:15 p.m. A few minutes later, traffic was moving south again. No additional information about the crash was immediately available. It was the second significant crash on Interstate 255 on the afternoon of May 20. A semi rolled over about 1:35 p.m. May 20 on Interstate 255 just south of I-270, temporarily closing the southbound lanes of the highway. Those lanes had reopened about a half-hour before the latest crash. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
