70-year-old woman dies after crash in Beaverdale neighborhood
A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Des Moines.According to the Des Moines Police Department, a crash was reported shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Beaver Avenue and Hickman Road. Investigators determined a Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound on Beaver Avenue when it was hit by a Toyota crossover SUV that was heading westbound on Hickman. The Toyota failed to yield at a red light, according to police.A passenger in the Dodge pickup, identified as a 70-year-old woman, was transported to a nearby hospital. She died from her injuries.Authorities have not yet publicly identified anyone involved in the crash. Charges are pending a review from the Polk County Attorney's Office.According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 80 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That is 13 more than the number recorded at the same point in 2025.
