6 killed in 2 Prince George's County crashes as officials push for safer roads

Six people are dead after two separate crashes on Prince George’s County roads this week, both involving motorcycles , prompting renewed calls from county leaders for drivers to slow down , stay focused and help prevent deadly collisions. The crashes are raising new concerns about traffic safety as officials work on a broader plan aimed at reducing serious and fatal crashes across the county. The most recent crash happened Tuesday night in Adelphi at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Metzerott Road. Investigators have not released additional details about what led up to the crash, and the cause remains under investigation. The crash came just days after another deadly collision in Upper Marlboro that claimed the lives of three people, including 22-year-old Adriana Maxwell. Police say Maxwell was a passenger in an Uber traveling on Route 301 when the driver failed to yield to a motorcycle, leading to a crash that killed Maxwell, the motorcycle rider and another person. I mean, my family, her mom‘s family, everything is just in shambles right now. I’m trying to hold on, I have to hold on for her siblings.” Watson said he wants changes that could help prevent other families from experiencing the same kind of loss. Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy said the county is developing a “Road to Zero” action plan expected to be released in the coming months. She says the effort will focus on a combination of engineering improvements and driver education to reduce deadly crashes. Officials said both fatal crashes remain under investigation. Authorities continue to remind drivers to avoid distractions, obey traffic laws and use caution on county roads.
