6 injured after multiple crashes on Colonial Blvd, 1 involving Fort Myers police patrol vehicle
Multiple crashes at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Winkler Avenue have prompted road closures in Fort Myers on Thursday. All westbound lanes of Colonial Blvd at Winkler Ave were shut down. Police said traffic traveling on Winkler Ave was diverted back onto Colonial Blvd. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there is a minor roadblock in the area.One crash involved a Fort Myers Police Department Community Service Aide (CSA), the department said.According to FHP, the FMPD CSA vehicle was struck while investigating a crash. Troopers said a marked FMPD patrol vehicle was then hit while responding to the CSA vehicle-involved crash.FMPD said six people were taken to local hospitals, and they sustained minor injuries.
