5 victims hospitalized when wrong-way driver on I-41 causes multi-vehicle crash in Winnebago County
NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) - On Friday evening, five victims were hospitalized after a wrong-way driver on I-41 in Winnebago County caused a multi-vehicle crash during a pursuit. According to a release from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, deputies got several calls reporting a wrong-way driver going south in the northbound lanes of I-41 near Winneconne Avenue in Neenah. Shortly after, responding deputies found the pickup truck near Breezewood Lane and tried to stop it. However, the truck turned around and was then driving north in the southbound lanes, still on I-41. A pursuit reportedly began before the pickup truck crashed into four other vehicles while driving the wrong way. Deputies say that five people were taken to local hospitals via ambulance and helicopter. The Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation. No additional details were provided.
