5 people die in head-on crash in Upstate, troopers say
LATEST INFORMATION HERE. Five people died in a Friday morning crash in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash happened at 12:45 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Bellview Road extension. Troopers said a 2025 Ford SUV was traveling north on Highway 101 and a 2016 Toyota SUV was traveling south on Highway 101.They said the two vehicles collided head-on. The driver and passenger in the Ford SUV died, as well as the driver and two passengers in the Toyota SUV. The driver and passenger of the Ford, were identified by the coroner as 50-year-old Deborah Sue Wyatt and 46-year-old Max Douglas Wyatt Jr, both of Duncan. Deborah died at the scene and Max later died at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.The coroner's office identified one of the three occupants who died in the Toyota. She was identified as 35-year-old Ashley Munoz of Woodruff. The coroner said Munoz died at the scene. She was employed with the Greenville Police Department as a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigation Division.The identities of the other two individuals in the Toyota will be released once next of kin has been notified.Another passenger in the Toyota SUV was injured, troopers said.
