3 killed, 1 injured in Grant County crash
GRANT COUNTY, Ind. -- An investigation is underway after three people were killed and one other sustained "severe" injuries in a crash Monday afternoon in Grant County. Troopers with the Indiana State Police responded around 12:15 p.m. to the area of County Road 600 South near County Road 1150 East after receiving reports indicating that a serious crash had occurred. ISP said authorities arrived on the scene and found a heavily damaged 2002 Chevrolet Malibu resting off the roadway near a tree. Preliminary information indicates that the driver, identified as 23-year-old Alexander McGuin of Gas City, was traveling eastbound on County Road 600 South when he veered off the roadway and ran into a nearby tree. The impact of the collision left McGuin and two occupants, identified as 21-year-old James Clark and 19-year-old Gracelynn Daniels, deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner's Office. One other passenger was airlifted to an area hospital for medical treatment. While authorities have not confirmed their exact condition, ISP noted their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Investigators believe that a combination of alcohol/narcotics and speed may have contributed to the deadly crash, ISP said. The circumstances that led to the fatal crash remain under active investigation.
