3 injured at Wayne County Speedway after car leaves track, crashes into infield
[Editor's note: This article has been updated to include new information from the speedway clarifying the three people injured in the crash were not spectators, as previously reported by firefighters.] WAYNE COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) -- Three people were hospitalized Monday night after an incident at the Wayne County Speedway during Ohio Sprint Speedweek. According to a news release from the Apple Creek/East Union Township Fire Department, a sprint car went off the track and into the infield, striking three people during a race on June 15. Two of the victims suffered critical injuries. One had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment. The third victim's injuries were not life-threatening, the release said. Announcers at the event said all three victims were conscious and talking. The names and ages of the victims were not released. The speedway issued a statement on Tuesday that read: The race continued after a delay. The race was part of the 44th annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek.
