3 hospitalized, 2 critical in Wayne County Speedway crash

Click here for previous coverage. ORRVILLE, Ohio (WJW) – Three people remain hospitalized after a crash during competition at Wayne County Speedway on Monday night. The Apple Creek-East Union Township Fire Department said a sprint car went off the track and into the infield, striking three people on June 15. Two people suffered critical injuries requiring advanced medical care, according to the fire department. One victim was airlifted from the scene by MedFlight. The others were transported by EMS. The third victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Wayne County Speedway spokesperson Jason Flory confirmed the accident. “Our thoughts are with the injured and their families during this difficult time,” Flory said in a press release. “The safety of our fans, competitors, staff and officials remains our highest priority.” Flory said those injured were not spectators. Ohio Motorsport Photography posted on Facebook that one of its photographers suffered multiple broken bones in his leg and required immediate surgeries. The organization said it expects a long but full recovery. Many people online have shared well wishes and prayers for those injured. Wayne County Speedway also thanked first responders for their efforts in caring for those hurt in the crash. The speedway said it will not comment further at this time. The next race is scheduled for Saturday.
