22-year-old Olathe woman dies after jet ski crash at Perry Lake; 20-year-old arrested

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 22-year-old Olathe woman was killed in a jet ski crash at Perry Lake this past weekend. On Sunday at 6 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks said they responded to an accident on Perry Lake involving two water vessels that collided. Hannah Heflin, 22, from Olathe died. Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man and have recommended that he be charged with vehicular homicide. Heflin had just graduated from Kansas State University with a psychology degree and was planning to pursue a PhD, according to the GoFundMe that was started to help her family with funeral costs and attorney fees. "Hannah passed peacefully with her girlfriend...by her side after 45 minutes of attempted resuscitation," the GoFundMe reads. "The loss has left her family and friends heartbroken, as they face the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to someone so young and full of promise. "Her warmth and spirit touched everyone around her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her." Those interested in donating can click here. The Kansas Department Wildlife and Parks is leading this investigation, which is ongoing.
