20-year-old man dies after Toyota Corolla crashes into canal
A man was killed in a car accident after crashing into a canal on Saturday morning. CHP received a call that the wheels of a car could be seen in a canal on James Road south of Lincoln Avenue a bit before 7 a.m. A CHP officer responded and confirmed a white 2016 Toyota Corolla was submerged. With assistance from the Fresno County Fire boat rescue team, the car was recovered from the water. It was discovered that a 20-year-old man was inside the car. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the investigation, the car was traveling toward the intersection with Lincoln Avenue. However, there is a curve in the road, and for a reason still under investigation, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and continued straight into the canal. Investigators have not determined when the collision occurred. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in this crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact CHP at (559) 705-2200.
