2 women killed in 4-vehicle crash on 71 Highway identified
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City police have identified the two women killed in a multi-vehicle crash earlier this week on 71 Highway. The crash was reported just before 12:40 p.m. on Monday near 71 Highway and Meyer Boulevard. Investigations determined that a silver Subaru Forrester and a silver Ford Escape were both stopped at a red light on the exit ramp from northbound 71 to Meyer Boulevard. A black Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on the exit ramp at a high rate of speed. The F-150 sideswiped the Escape and hit the rear end of the Subaru. The F-150 pushed the Subaru northbound across the eastbound lanes of Meyer, through the center median and over a concrete wall. As the Subaru was being pushed over the wall, the vehicle overturned and landed in the westbound lanes of Meyer. When the front of the F-150 disengaged from the Subaru, the vehicle started to rotate across the westbound lanes of Meyer. The F-150 then hit a gray GMC Sierra that was traveling westbound on Meyer before coming to a stop. The driver and front seat passenger of the Subaru were both pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified on Thursday as 46-year-old Opia Muntagim and 54-year-old Teri Glass. The driver of the F-150 was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Escape was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and once complete, the case will be submitted to prosecutors to determine possible charges.
