2 people died in a crash near Mitchell Wednesday
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Two people have died in a single-vehicle crash near Mitchell on Wednesday afternoon. According to a news release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2018 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 between the two Mitchell exits when the vehicle entered the south ditch and struck a guard cable near an upcoming bridge over Rowley Street. The vehicle fell onto Rowley Street, where it struck a retaining wall, and came to rest on its side. The driver, a 34-year-old man from Pierre, and a passenger, a 38-year-old woman from Pierre, died from their injuries sustained in the crash. A 1-year-old passenger and a 3-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. The names of the persons involved in the crash have not been released pending notification of family members. All occupants were wearing seatbelts. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
