2 killed when Jeep hits tree, catches fire near Anaheim’s OC Vibe

Two people were killed when a Jeep collided with a tree and caught fire in Orange County during the early morning hours Monday. The single-vehicle crash was reported just after 12:30 a.m. near Katella Avenue and Douglass Road, just outside the OC Vibe parking structure and the Ayres Hotel Anaheim. Arriving first responders found a green Jeep Liberty engulfed in flames and quickly extinguished the fire. “We found two people deceased inside the vehicle,” Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Sutter told KTLA’s Jacqueline Sarkissian at the scene. No information regarding the victims’ identities has been released. It was unclear what caused the driver to lose control of the Jeep. Sutter said no other vehicles were involved. “It was not a police pursuit or anything like that,” he said. The intersection remained closed Monday morning as police continued their investigation. KTLA’s Nancy Fontan contributed to this report.
