2 killed in deadly crash on I-85 in Durham County, NCSHP says

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Two people died after a car crashed into a tree along Interstate 85 in Durham County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Troopers at the scene said two cars were traveling along I-85 in Durham County when one car hit the other, causing the car that was hit to leave the roadway and crash into a tree. According to NCSHP, two people in the car were killed when the vehicle hit the tree. It is unknown if one of the people killed was the driver of the car at this time. NCSHP said the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash stayed at the scene and was cooperating with troopers. No charges are being filed at the time of publication. A CBS 17 crew at the scene of the crash captured this image of the crash. Then NCSHP said the investigation into the crash is ongoing. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the scene has been cleared and the roadway is back open.
