2 dead after crash during THP pursuit on I-24 in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people died after their vehicle crashed while fleeing from the Tennessee Highway Patrol last week, according to a newly released crash report. The incident was reported at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, near mile marker 54 on Interstate 24 West near Antioch Pike. According to the THP investigation, a Volkswagen CC was fleeing from troopers on I-24 West when it collided with a Ford Escape, which was driving in the far right lane. The Volkswagen then went off the right side of the road and hit a guard rail before overturning, while the Ford stopped along the right shoulder. The Volkswagen's driver, 18-year-old David Wheeler, died from his injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time, the report said. A passenger, 43-year-old Kisha Marable, was also pronounced dead after the crash. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. A second passenger, age 32, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, had unspecified injuries. The Ford's driver and passenger were not injured, and both were wearing seatbelts. The report did not say why the Volkswagen was being pursued, however, THP previously told News 2 the vehicle was evading from an attempted traffic stop when the crash occurred.
