2 dead, 3 hospitalized after car crashes into tree, catches on fire

(FOX40.COM) — Two people are dead after a car crashed into a tree and caught on fire early Sunday morning, north of Rancho Murietta, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Metro Fire said crews responded to reports of a fire just after midnight at 5223 Scott Road. According to officials, a car, occupied by five people, crashed into a tree and caught on fire. Crews confirmed that two people died and three people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Metro Fire said the three people hospitalized were identified as teenagers, and the two people who died are believed to be in the same age group. "Sacramento Metro Fire extends our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this tragic incident," officials with Metro Fire said. "We remain hopeful that the victims currently receiving treatment make a full recovery." The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
