2 dead, 2 hospitalized in North Las Vegas crash; impairment suspected
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Two people are dead, and two were hospitalized in a North Las Vegas crash Sunday. Around 1:05 a.m., North Las Vegas police responded to a report of a crash with multiple people trapped at the intersection of Lone Mountain Road and Clayton Street. When officers arrived, they found two vehicles with significant damage and multiple people injured. A 38-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a 53-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. Two people were take to the hospital with injuries and are expected to survive, according to Metro police. Preliminary details showed that a Honda HRV was driving eastbound on Lone Mountain Road at a high rate of speed when it failed to obey a red light and hit a Ford Expedition driving northbound on Clayton Street. The crash caused both vehicles to spin through the intersection and crash into fixed objects, including a power pole and a wall, according to North Las Vegas police. Police said impairment is suspected and a search warrant was obtained for blood samples from the driver of Honda.
