South Shore train collides with vehicle at railroad crossing in South Bend
A South Shore train collided with a vehicle at the Country Club Road and South Shore Line crossing on Tuesday night. Officers were called to the crossing, just off Edison Road near U.S. 31, just after 11 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found that a vehicle was struck by the high-speed train at the crossing. According to St. Joseph County Police, they spoke with the driver, who said their vehicle was stuck on the tracks when they attempted to turn around. The driver was unable to get the vehicle off the tracks before the train. The driver was able to move clear of the tracks before the train struck the car. No injuries were reported from the sole occupant or the passengers and crew aboard the train.
