2 dead, 1 injured following crash in Polk County: deputies
DAVENPORT, Fla. (WFLA) -- Law enforcement is investigating after a crash left two people dead and another person injured Sunday morning. According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the crash occurred on U.S. Hwy 27 near California Boulevard in Davenport around 3:50 a.m. Deputies said a Genesis G70 was heading southbound on U.S. Hwy 27 approaching a solid red light when it hit a Ford Explorer that was stopped at the light. The driver of the Genesis died from his injuries. Deputies said he was not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger of the Genesis was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Explorer was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to recover, deputies said. The investigation is ongoing, but the sheriff's office says no charges are anticipated.
