2 dead, 1 critically injured after stolen Hollister vehicle crashes during police chase
Police said a deadly police chase in Gilroy began with a stolen vehicle reported out of Hollister.The Morgan Hill Police Department said it received a be-on-the-lookout alert Tuesday morning for a stolen vehicle from Hollister.According to Morgan Hill police, Gilroy police initially spotted the stolen vehicle, but it left city limits before a traffic stop could be initiated.Morgan Hill police said the vehicle was driving into Morgan Hill on Monterey Road near Middle Avenue.Officers tried to stop the vehicle near 14000 Monterey Road, but the driver allegedly failed to yield. A second attempt to stop the vehicle was made near 15000 Monterey Road.During the second attempt, the suspect crashed into a tree and a large dumpster near the officer on scene. According to police, the vehicle continued driving into the city of Gilroy.During the chase, the suspect vehicle ran a red light at Monterey Road and Leavesley Road. Officers slowed down to clear the intersection and lost sight of the vehicle.Shortly afterward, police said the stolen vehicle was found crashed into the center median and a light pole on Monterey Road near 1st Street in Gilroy.Police said the vehicle overturned, and all three occupants were ejected.Life-saving efforts were attempted, but two of the occupants were declared dead at the scene. The third person sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.The crash is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
