18-year-old man charged in 100 mile-per-hour deadly crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Charges have been filed against an 18-year-old Parkville, Missouri, man in connection to a fiery roll-over crash that left one woman dead. On Friday, Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd, announced involuntary manslaughter charges against Om Patel, after a passenger in Patel's car was killed in a rollover crash. On March 23, around 4:20 a.m., deputies with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of 45 Highway, near North Main Street, in Farley, Missouri, on reports of a crash. An initial investigation revealed that Patel was driving a 2024 BMW M4 Sedan southbound on 45 Highway when he drove off the highway and overturned before catching fire. According to court documents, Patel was driving at speeds over 100 miles-per-hour and is accused of having alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. The 18-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and Patel was taken to an area hospital for treatment. According to court documents, Patel told a deputy at the scene "I drove and killed her." At the time of the crash Patel also admitted that he and the passenger were coming from a party. A breathalyzer test conducted by deputies at the scene showed alcohol in Patel's system before he was arrested for DWI, according to court records. A warrant has been issued for Patel's arrest and a judge has set a $25,000 cash-bond.
