17-year-old driver charged in crash that killed 15-year-old passenger in Glastonbury

GLASTONBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A 17-year-old driver was arrested Monday in connection with a crash that killed his 15-year-old passenger, according to Glastonbury police. Dillon Dupuis was a passenger in one of the three vehicles that collided on Hebron Avenue/Route 94 on Oct. 24. He died from his injuries on Nov. 5. Police said the 17-year-old boy was speeding in a 2004 Nissan westbound on Hebron Avenue with Dupuis in the car. The teen lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the eastbound lane, and struck two oncoming vehicles, police said. The teen turned himself in to police on Monday and was charged with second-degree manslaughter, failure to drive right, first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree reckless driving, three counts of second-degree reckless driving, three counts of operating a motor vehicle to endanger occupant and violation of passenger restrictions. Dupuis joined the Glastonbury Fire Cadet Program when he was just 14, his friends and fellow firefighters having responded to the crash scene. At the firehouse on Main Street, black bunting drapes now hang from the walls in his memory. “He was a member of the family, and he was a young man going through life,” Glastonbury Fire Chief Michael Thurz said. “Hopefully, he could’ve been part of our future as a firefighter when he turned 18.” Dupuis was a sophomore at Glastonbury High School, where he was a member of the school’s crew team and marching band.
