16-year-old saves stranger's life by doing 'the right thing' after car crash
MORRISON, Ill. (KWQC/CNN Newsource/WKRC) - A 16-year-old saved a stranger's life by being at the "right place at the right time" and doing "the right thing" after a car crash. Randy Gerlach, 16, was driving down a country road when he saw a car in a ditch. Although many others kept driving, Gerlach had a sinking feeling. "I wasn't sure if something actually happened or if [the driver] just kind of accidentally went too far on the shoulder and just went in," Gerlach said. "I turned around in town because I figured by then, if it was an accident and they didn't mean to, they would've been gone by then, and they weren't." Gerlach jumped out of his car to investigate the shouldered vehicle, and found an unconscious woman in the driver's seat. He called 911 and the woman was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors revealed that if Gerlach had been even 20 minutes later, she likely wouldn't have survived. "Just right place at the right time, and I actually did the right think and didn't just keep going," Gerlach said.
