101 Freeway lanes closed due to fiery big rig crash

A collision involving a semi-truck led to the closure of all lanes on the 101 Freeway during the early hours of Tuesday morning in East Hollywood. Emergency crews were seen by Sky5 attending to a jackknifed tractor-trailer and a burning vehicle that were involved in the incident. Though initial details were scarce, the California Highway Patrol's records indicated the crash happened around 5:15 a.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department later confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash, which included a potential fuel leak that was swiftly contained. According to both the LAFD and CHP, two individuals sustained minor injuries, with one receiving hospital treatment and the other declining medical help. Traffic diversions and the utilization of a nearby bus lane were put in place, along with a SigAlert warning motorists of significant delays. Sky5 aerial footage captured heavy congestion on the 101 stretching through downtown, with some lanes reopening after 9 a.m. and others remaining closed well into the afternoon. The cause of the crash was not immediately disclosed. The report was contributed by Vanessa Garcia.
