10-year-old hit, killed in crash near Downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A 10-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a truck near downtown Las Vegas, according to Las Vegas Metro police. The crash took place on Thursday around 6:48 p.m. in the 2900 block of Charleston Boulevard near Fremont Street. Police told 8 News Now the 10-year-old was hit in the street while walking outside of a crosswalk, as well as an implied crosswalk. Following the crash, the child was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. "The driver of the pickup truck was located down the street" and taken into custody, according to police. Impairment is not suspected in the crash, and the driver was not injured, police said. "This is a reminder for not only those that drive on our roadways to pay attention, slow down, especially during those hours where it is dark out," LVMPD Lieutenant Cody Fulwiler said. "We don't want this to continue. This is a 10-year-old that is not going to be there with their family any longer." "A tragic, tragic incident that happened tonight, and we don't want to see this continue," Lt. Fulwiler said. Police also encouraged parents to talk to their children about where and when to cross streets and how to watch out for vehicles. The crash remains under LVMPD investigation. Drivers should avoid the area as all lanes are blocked on Charleston Boulevard at Mojave Road.
