1 person dead after fiery crash on SR-54 leaves Spring Valley traffic at a standstill

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The California Highway Patrol confirmed with FOX 5/KUSI that one person has died from a fiery crash on SR-54 on Saturday, leaving traffic in Spring Valley at a standstill for hours. *The Nexstar Media Wire video above explains what to do if you witness a crash. The collision has blocked the right two lanes of eastbound SR-54 at the SR-125 connect, according to a social media post from CalTrans. The collision was initially reported at around 3:34 p.m. Saturday, and CHP crews are currently at the scene. According to CHP, a person with a flat tire called a tow truck. As the tow truck was reportedly loading the car with the flat tire, another vehicle rear-ended the tow truck. The vehicle that hit the back of the tow truck overturned and caught fire. Both the tow truck and the vehicle were reportedly on fire. The driver of the overturned vehicle died, according to CHP. Meanwhile, there was one person in the tow truck and one person with the car that had the flat tire. No other injuries have yet been reported. At around 5:30 p.m., traffic on eastbound SR-54 was backed up from Sweetwater Road to Woodman Street. At around 7:45 p.m., all lanes reopened on SR-54.
