1 killed, 1 injured in fiery wrong-way crash in Castro County
One person was killed and another was injured in a fiery wrong-way crash in Castro County. The crash happened around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday on State Highway 194, about six miles southeast of Hart. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Stacy Maureen Stone, 57, of Abernathy, was driving westbound in the eastbound lane. A tractor-trailer headed east swerved into the westbound lane in an attempt to avoid Stone's Ford Bronco. DPS said the Bronco then moved back into the westbound lane and collided with the tractor-trailer. The Bronco caught fire after the crash. The tractor-trailer ended up in a ditch and and rolled onto its side. Stone was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 29-year-old Marcus Jacob Ortegon of Hereford, was taken to Plains Memorial Hospital in Dimmitt with minor injuries.
