1 injured in single-car crash on Poquoson Ave.

POQUOSON, Va. (WAVY) — One person was injured after an electric car struck a residence and caught fire on Poquoson Avenue Wednesday, according to Poquoson officials. The single-car crash happened in the 1000 block of Poquoson Avenue around 8:22 p.m., and the driver had to be extricated from the car and flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital by Nightingale helicopter, according to a spokesperson responding on behalf of Fire Chief Michael Bryant. The extent of the injuries to the driver is not known at this time, the spokesperson said. There was property damage to the home, but the residents were not injured, the spokesperson said. The car was removed from the home and the fire appears to be out, but once fire officials are sure the fire is out, they'll move the car from the property. As of about 11:30 p.m., the car was in the process of being towed and taken away, and officials said the scene was clear as of about midnight Thursday. The area of Poquoson Avenue between Poplar Road and Bunting Lane was closed to traffic but has since reopened. Besides Poquoson Fire and Police, York County Fire and Life Safety and the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue also responded to the crash.
