1 in custody after multijurisdictional pursuit causes crashes, totals cruiser

A chaotic scene in Summit County ended Tuesday night with the arrest of a man accused of attempted murder after leading police on a multijurisdictional pursuit, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.Around 3:20 p.m., troopers were told to look out for a gray Kia Telluride driven by a 39-year-old man who had fled from Canton police and U.S. Marshals, OSHP said.Flock cameras located the vehicle just before 7:30 p.m. on Darrow Road in Hudson. Troopers attempted to stop the driver, but he did not comply and a pursuit ensued, OSHP said.As the pursuit reached Terex Road, the 39-year-old driver failed to stop at a red light, resulting in a serious crash that left multiple people injured, OSHP said.The 39-year-old then exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot before firing at the trooper who was pursuing him, OSHP said. The trooper returned fire, and the man fled into nearby woods.A perimeter was then set up to locate the 39-year-old.Around 8:25 p.m., troopers found the suspect driving a silver Chrysler Town & Country that he had carjacked and once again attempted to stop him. The driver, again, failed to stop, and a second pursuit began, OSHP said.Highland Throwbacks shared a video with News 5, showing Tuesday evening's pursuit going through the Fox Den Golf Course in Stow.The pursuit lasted about 10 minutes, ending when the driver struck a Summit Metro Parks cruiser, totaling it, OSHP said.The officer in the cruiser saw the vehicle approaching during the pursuit and decided to jump out before it was overturned and totaled, Summit Metro Parks said. OSHP said the officer sustained minor injuries.Following the crash, the 39-year-old attempted to flee again but was taken into custody by Stow police officers and troopers, OSHP said.News 5 sent a crew to the crash scene in Hudson, where a heavy police presence was in the area of Darrow and Terex roads. Throughout the evening, multiple News 5 viewers reached out to us, saying they saw numerous law enforcement agencies in that area.Crime scene tape and shell casings were seen at the intersection where numerous vehicles were involved in the crash.
