1 dead in Broad Street auto-pedestrian crash

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - One person is dead following a Thursday morning auto-pedestrian crash in downtown Charleston, according to police. The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of King Street and Broad Street. An initial investigation into the crash found that a pedestrian was crossing Broad at King in a designated crosswalk when a pickup truck, turning left from King, struck them. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Their name has not yet been released. "The driver remained on scene," said police officials. The road was closed for nearly three hours while officers investigated the deadly crash. While an investigation is ongoing, police said no charges have been filed at this time.
