1 dead after head-on crash in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. — One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Shelby County. According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department, the crash occurred at roughly 7:45 a.m. on Thursday on 600 South, just west of State Road 9 in the southern portion of Shelby County. Investigators said a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica with two occupants was traveling westbound on 600 South when it apparently drove off the roadway, overcorrected, and veered into the path of an oncoming Kenworth tanker truck. The two vehicles collided head-on with the driver of the Pacifica being pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's department said a juvenile passenger from the Pacifica was transported to a hospital in Indianapolis. No condition was given for their injuries. The driver of the tanker truck, a 28-year-old man, was also transported to a hospital, though his injuries were listed as non-life-threatening. The sheriff's department said all three individuals involved in the crash are from Shelbyville. The coroner has not yet identified the deceased.
