1 dead after car crashes into trees, catches fire northwest of Fort Wayne

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - One person is dead from a fiery crash Friday afternoon northwest of Fort Wayne, according to the Allen County Sheriff's Department. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., police responded to the 9800 block of Johnson Road between U.S. 33 and West Dupont Road on reports of a personal injury crash involving a single vehicle and a possible ejection, according to a release from the Allen County Sheriff's Department. A preliminary investigation indicates that a silver Audi was traveling northbound on Johnson Road when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the east side of the roadway, struck several trees, rolled over, and caught fire. The driver and only person in the vehicle, was thrown from the car. The driver was described as male, but his age was not released. He was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition, but was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
