1 dead, 3 injured in car crash after suspect fled traffic stop
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- One person is dead following a car crash that police said stems from a car fleeing a traffic stop. Around 12:19 a.m. Sunday morning, San Jose police responded to reports of a two-vehicle car crash in the area of Naglee Avenue and Park Avenue. Police said the preliminary investigation shows the primary car involved in the crash was fleeing a traffic stop from a neighboring jurisdiction. Around 12:16 a.m., Santa Clara Police Department officers saw a gold Buick on Stevens Creek Boulevard driving recklessly, including driving on the center median and the wrong side of the road. Officers attempted to pull over the Buick, which refused to stop. The Buick fled through city streets of Santa Clara and Highway 880 into San Jose, where the Buick ran a red light and crashed into another car followed by crashing into a traffic pole. Three people including the driver of the Buick and two passengers in the other car were transported to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries. One woman, the passenger of the Buick, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several streets in the area remain closed while police investigate the crash. Anyone with information on this investigation is urged to contact the San José Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit at 408-277-4654. Witnesses to the collision can also contact Traffic Investigator Steve Ernst at 408-615-4764.
