1 dead, 3 injured after 18-wheeler crash on Toll 49 in Smith County

TYLER, Texas (KETK) - Officials have confirmed that one person died and three people were injured on Thursday after an 18-wheeler and multiple vehicles crashed on Toll 49. According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, an 18-wheeler and multiple vehicles crashed on Toll 49 westbound near mile marker 19 at around 1:40 p.m. on Thursday. When first responders arrived at the scene one person was dead from the crash, a sheriff's office official told KETK News. EMS, firefighters, sheriff's office deputies and the Texas Department of Public Safety are all responding to the crash. Texas Department of Public Safety officials said three people including a child have minor non-life-threatening injuries from the crash and have been transported to local hospitals for treatment. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured, according to officials. Traffic on both sides of Toll 49 was reopened at around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday following the crash.
