1 dead, 2 injured after head-on crash on Oregon highway

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A crash in Lincoln County left one person dead and two others injured on Highway 20 on Thursday, Oregon State Police said. Investigators said a silver Chrysler Town & County van, operated by Rosalea Ann Engelbrecht, 77, veered into oncoming traffic and eastbound gray Toyota Highlander, operated by John Sterling Daigle, 82, of Newport collided with the van despite trying to swerve away from it. Engelbrecht was taken to a local hospital but died of her injuries. Daigle and Toyota passenger Vicki Ray Bock, 77, of Newport, were both treated for minor injuries. It is unknown why Engelbrecht veered into oncoming traffic, and the highway was impacted for three hours following the investigation.
