1 dead, 1 arrested after Johnson County crash
JOHNSON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Johnson County crash Saturday afternoon left one man dead and a Pope County man in custody on suspicion of negligent homicide. The crash happened around 1:40 p.m. on State Highway 123 in rural Johnson County, according to an Arkansas State Police fatal crash report. According to the report, a 2000 BMW was traveling northbound when it left the roadway and overcorrected into the southbound lane, striking a southbound 2011 Harley-Davidson. Curtis Morris, 72, of Durant, Oklahoma, was riding the Harley-Davidson and died as a result of the crash. The BMW's driver, Dio Caldwell, 68, of London, Arkansas, was injured and transported to Johnson Regional Medical Center. The nature of his injuries was not described in the report. Caldwell was arrested later that evening by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and booked on suspicion of negligent homicide in connection with operating a vehicle, DWI and failure to maintain control. Bond was set at $8,500. No formal charges had been filed as of noon Monday. Caldwell is scheduled to appear in Johnson County Circuit Court on Aug. 12.
