Wrong-way crash on I-49 leaves 1 dead, 2 seriously hurt in Harrisonville

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 22-year-old man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 49 in Harrisonville, Missouri, last week. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at about 10:20 p.m. Friday, a 30-year-old man driving a Ford Explorer was heading southbound in the northbound lanes of I-49 when he crashed head-on into a Toyota Prius. The Explorer came to a rest in the median, and the Prius caught on fire. The driver of the Explorer, a Lee's Summit resident, was the only person inside the car at the time of the crash. They were taken to Research Medical Center with serious injuries. Four men from Nebraska were inside the Prius when the crash occurred. MSHP reports that the 22-year-old driver was killed, and a 24-year-old passenger was seriously injured and was taken to Research Medical Center, as well. The other two passengers had minor injuries. The cause of the crash is still unknown, and law enforcement has not released the name of the victim who died.
