Woman, young child, and infant hurt in distracted driving collision with truck on 7 Mile
According to Michigan State Police, a woman and her two young children are recovering from a crash in Northfield Township that occurred when their SUV collided with a truck carrying heavy equipment and flipped over. The incident at Seven Mile and Dixboro roads this morning may have been caused by distracted driving. Despite the severity of the crash, the mother, a month-old baby, and a 2-year-old child only sustained minor injuries. Several witnesses, including an 87-year-old named Diane Ferris, came to their aid immediately. The 30-year-old woman from South Lyon, who was driving a Ford Bronco Sport, allegedly ran a stop sign and crashed into the truck pulling a trailer and excavator, causing both vehicles to overturn. Fortunately, the truck driver, a 44-year-old man, was unharmed. Ferris, who witnessed the crash, recalled the terrifying sound and the heroic actions of bystanders who rushed to help. She described the scene where the baby was rescued and placed in a fire truck, highlighting the fragility of life. Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, but they suspect distracted driving played a significant role.
