Woman killed, 25 others injured after semi crosses divider on 210 Freeway
A woman was killed and at least 25 others were injured, including three people reported in critical condition, after a semi-truck crashed through the center divider on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale on Saturday morning, authorities said. The crash was reported at about 8:55 a.m. on the westbound span of the 210 just west of Irwindale Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene, where investigators determined a semi-truck had crossed through the freeway's center divider and entered opposing lanes. An adult woman was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials told KTLA. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Earlier, Los Angeles County fire officials said first responders arrived shortly after 9 a.m. and found that the semi had collided with the center divider and was involved in a crash involving multiple vehicles. The fire department reported three patients in critical condition and 25 patients with minor injuries. Authorities have not yet said whether the woman who died was among those initially counted as critically injured. According to CHP traffic logs, the truck crossed from the eastbound side of the freeway into the westbound lanes after crashing through the center barrier. The semi then jackknifed across several westbound lanes and struck multiple vehicles. The crash prompted a SigAlert for the westbound 210 Freeway, where all lanes were blocked for several hours as emergency crews worked at the scene. Traffic was diverted at Irwindale Avenue, causing significant backups throughout the area. The eastbound side of the freeway was also affected, with the HOV lane and Nos. 1 and 2 lanes temporarily closed. CHP logs also noted extensive damage to the center divider and guardrail. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No additional details were immediately available.
