Woman from Bolivar facing charges for deadly DUI collision

A Bolivar resident, Ashley M. Colbert, 26, has been charged following a deadly solo vehicle accident near Bolivar last month. Online records state that Colbert faces the charge of driving while intoxicated — resulting in the death of another, categorized as a class C felony. The incident occurred on Mo. 32 at approximately 4:19 p.m. on Friday, August 22, just three miles west of Bolivar. Witnesses informed authorities that the vehicle veered through a ditch and collided with a tree. At the scene, emergency personnel found two individuals trapped; CPR efforts were underway on one victim while Colbert was being attended to in an ambulance. Unfortunately, the passenger later succumbed to injuries at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. It was noted in the statement that an open bottle of Sea Ice Vodka was discovered on the driver's side floor of the Honda Fit involved in the accident. Colbert disclosed to law enforcement that she did not possess a driver's license and had consumed alcohol shortly before the crash. She displayed signs of intoxication during field sobriety tests and agreed to a blood test at the hospital. A warrant has been issued for her arrest with a set bond of $25,000 and potential conviction could lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars.
