Woman faces manslaughter charges after Provo accident causing child's death

A video related to the incident in Provo where a driver hit two children in a mobile home park, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old, has gained attention. The driver, identified as Nereyda Yessenia Miranda Montano, has been charged with manslaughter and reckless child abuse. The accident took place on Oct. 28, 2025, when Miranda Montano hit the children while they were playing in front of their house. She had placed trash bags on her car hood, obstructing her view as she drove past the children and their father. The 2-year-old sadly passed away from her injuries, while the 4-year-old suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital. Miranda Montano admitted to intentionally placing the bags on her hood when questioned by the police. She is currently in custody at the Utah County Jail.
