Woman dies, driver arrested after car plunges into Oklahoma City neighborhood pond
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Police released new details regarding an early morning crash on Sunday in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood that left one woman dead and the driver arrested after the vehicle plunged into a pond and became fully submerged. Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to the 12600 block of Heritage Oaks Drive after reports of a vehicle that had driven into a pond and became submerged. According to police, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed through the neighborhood when it entered a dead-end cul-de-sac and drove into the pond. Three people inside the submerged vehicle were able to exit, while one person did not. Fire crews on the scene were able to pull the person from the car before she was transported to Baptist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police later identified the victim as 23-year-old Derriana Hall. Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Alana Hamilton, showed signs of impairment and was transported to Mercy Hospital to have blood drawn. Hamilton was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, where she faces second-degree murder and aggravated driving under the influence charges.
