Witnesses sought for fatal crash
MEAD, Colo. (KREX) - The Colorado State Patrol is seeking witnesses to a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning on Interstate 25 near Longmont. The collision happened at around 5:50 a.m. on Monday in the southbound lanes just north of Highway 66. One driver was killed in the incident involving a white work van and a red Ford F350. The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash, which resulted in the truck overturning on the highway. Preliminary reports from the state police show the white work van was traveling in the left lane before signaling to move into the right lane. The driver of a red Ford F350, who had been traveling behind the van, simultaneously attempted to pass the vehicle on the right side. The driver of the Ford F350 drove onto the shoulder of the roadway during the passing attempt. As the truck merged from the shoulder back into the right lane, the front right corner of the work van clipped the rear left corner of the Ford. The impact caused the Ford to spin out of control and travel across the left lane into a concrete barrier. The truck continued down the barrier and overturned before coming to a final rest on its roof, facing west in the southbound lanes. The driver of the work van drove onto the west shoulder of the roadway after the collision. It came to a stop on its wheels facing south. Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the Ford dead at the scene. The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is lead on the investigation. Investigators are requesting information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the driving behavior of either vehicle before the incident. Authority is also seeking any dash camera footage that may have captured the vehicles. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colorado State Patrol Denver Dispatch Center at 303-239-4501 and reference case number VC260072. Witnesses should be prepared to leave their name and contact information for a return call. All facts in this report were gathered by journalists employed by WesternSlopeNow.com.
