VSP: 1 dead after crash involving motorcycle on Route 17 in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER, Va. (WAVY) -- A motorcyclist has died after a crash with a car on Route 17 in Gloucester County Thursday afternoon, Virginia State Police said. The crash happened around 2 p.m. when a motorcycle traveling southbound on Route 17 south of Brother Sams Road and a 2017 Toyota Camry leaving a shopping center crashed, according to State Police. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he died, according to State Police, who said the driver of the Camry was not injured. The crash is under investigation. There was an extended shutdown of the road in the area of Featherbed Lane and the 4800 block of George Washington Memorial Highway, but all lanes reopened as of 5:30 p.m.
