
VIDEO: Police say shooting leads to car crash in Southwest Baltimore
A bystander walking on a street in Southwest Baltimore was shot in what police called a suspected road rage incident.City police said officers were called around 7:12 p.m. Monday to the 2700 block of Wegworth Lane, where two cars collided.Before the crash, a person was shooting out of the passenger side of one of the vehicles, and it's believed that the bystander, an 18-year-old man, was shot in the wrist. He arrived at a hospital as police were investigating the crash, and is stable, police said.The driver and a passenger of one of the vehicles ran off, and the driver of the other car remained at the scene uninjured, police said.Investigators believe that the shooting victim was walking down the street and wasn't involved in the apparent road rage.11 News obtained video of the crash that started as a shooting. Neighbors said it happened quickly and that it was scary.One resident told 11 News they heard as many as six shots fired, while another resident said they thought it was fireworks at first because of the holiday.Immediately following the gunshots, residents said the cars went flying down Rittenhouse Avenue, turned onto Eastshire Drive, crossed Wedwood Lane, jumped a curb and took out a fire hydrant. It then rode up the hill at Lakeland Elementary School. Baltimore police said 50 cases of road rage were reported in the city in 2024. Police had 11 cases of road rage in the first three months of 2024. In the first three months of 2025, there were 20 cases.There have been 29 reported road rage cases so far this year, police told 11 News.
