Train collides with crane in Murcia, Spain's fourth crash in five days
A collision between a commuter train and a construction crane occurred in southeastern Spain, marking the fourth rail incident in just one week. Emergency services reported that four individuals sustained minor injuries near Cartagena. Thankfully, the train remained upright and on the tracks. The interruption in service was due to the intruding crane, not affiliated with the railway, on the infrastructure gauge. Despite the disruption, train services resumed by early afternoon. This incident follows a tragic high-speed collision in Andalusia that resulted in a significant loss of life and injuries. In light of these alarming events, Spain's major train drivers' union has called for a three-day nationwide strike starting February 9 to address safety concerns in railway operations. Transportation Minister Oscar Puente expressed reluctance towards a general strike as the government seeks to find alternative solutions.
